SIARGAO SEA MOVEMENT
As part of this mission, the team will help fund and set up a new grassroots initiative for local women in Siargao.
This livelihood project will focus on recycling items such as shopping bags or plastic from the sea to create fashionable bags and accessories for sale.
The funds raised by HER Planet Earth and Waste No Weekend will go towards buying materials that the women need, such as sewing machines, thread and ink for printing logos, to help them start the process and launch their co-op project.
Siargao is a tear-drop shaped island known as the “Surfing Capital of the Philippines”. It is located 800 kilometres southeast of the Philippines' capital Manila and belongs to the province of Surigao del Norte.
